Clerks opening

Today we analysed the opening of 'Clerks' (Kevin Smith) into sections of camerawork, representation, mise-en-scene, sound and editing. We found that the opening consisted of predominantely middle shots with many close-ups that were used to highlight details. There was non-diagetic sound of fast-paced rock music, reflecting the era the piece is set in, being the 90s. There is a strong representation of the middle class in the scene.

Mise-en-scene

Locale-> New Jersey
Lighting-> Black and white
Makes it an independent production

Costume-> informal-> t-shirt under formal shirt, jeans, black Dr.Martens
Acting-> realistic, provoking realism
